Our Self - Defence Classes

Our classes are free to anyone who feels vulnerable. This can include but is not limited to;

women, LGBTQIA people, Disabled people, and people of global majority.

Cardiff

  • Umbrella Gallery, Capitol Centre, Queen St

  • One Sunday a month, at 12:30pm

  • Our instructor is Rich Beasley

Rich utilises his near 20 year experience in martial arts, merging techniques from various disciplines, to deliver our self-defence classes.

Mostly focusing on Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, his classes with us are beginner-friendly with no specific level of fitness or experience required.

Rich skillfully adapts his teaching for different levels of mobility due to his practice as a personal trainer for people with dementia, and loves teaching people "how to move and train in a way that brings them joy".

Oxford

  • The Star, Rectory Road, Cowley

  • First Sunday of every month, at 11am

  • Our instructor is Emily Castells

Emily delivers Japanese Jiu Jitsu based self-defence classes, centred on modern day contexts, that are entry-level and require no specific level of fitness or experience, showing that you don't have to be strong, big or athletic to defend yourself.

After seeing a lack of female, queer and POC role models in martial arts, Emily "made it my mission, as an autistic, queer, Latina woman, to achieve my black belt and teach self-defence to more people like me".

We firmly believe that no one should ever be made to feel responsible for the harm imposed upon them; it is never the burden of marginalized individuals to have to learn self-defence; it's the responsibility of perpetrators to respect boundaries.

Our dedicated volunteer instructors ensure that their classes reflect this understanding, focusing on practical techniques to help you feel confident and safer while navigating the world, not dwelling on what could have been done “better.”
